Cutting Board Care Instructions

These are guidelines, not rules 😀

After each use, or when cutting anything moist, wash with warm water and dish soap and dry with a dish towel, or paper towel.  Do not submerge in water. Bread crumbs etc. can just be wiped off

Maintenance

(every couple of months or depending on usage)

• Wash with hot water and a sponge, do not submerge in water

• Place the cutting board on its edge to dry

• Apply one ounce of food-safe mineral oil using a clean rag or paper towel on both sides and edges

• Let oil sit for 10 minutes and wipe off excess mineral oil

Things To Avoid

• Never put your board in the dishwasher because the heat and water will warp and splinter the wood

• Do not stick knives in the board

• Do not soak in the sink or the dish pan as the board soaks up water and can crack or twist or bow, or all of these at once

• Do not put hot utensils, tea pots or pans on the cutting board. Placing hot steaks or other cooked meat on the board is okay

• Do not put the board into the Microwave or the Oven. Even if your microwave is big enough for the board, it has metal screws in the feet and this is bad for the microwave

• Avoid placing close to heat sources. Don't forget they are made from wood

• Do not use olive or vegetable oils for maintenance as they turn rancid quickly

Your end grain cutting board is made with Walnut and Maple, and is very durable, but because it is natural wood, it can dry out and crack without some minor maintenance.  Food grade mineral oil will keep it protected and looking like new. Your board has been treated with a product called "Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil" (It is available on Amazon and a little goes a long way) and rest assured, no Walrus’ were harmed in the making of the oil 😀

Your cutting board has been build to last, the maple inlays are 6mm thick, so if your board does accumulate knife marks from years of heavy usage it can be sanded and re-sealed. Contact me if you have any questions of concerns.
